Good afternoon from rural South Carolina, USA! I'm trying to get a few things done as I work on this blog post. Being my first post, I'm not sure really what I want to talk about, or what I really want this blog to focus on.
I'm really, really into planners. So I know this blog will probably have a lot of planner related posts. But I also love homemaking, gardening, canning, farming etc. Homestead type stuff. So I'll be posting about that too.
I'm a homeschool mom of 3 busy kids - 2 boys and a little girl - 5 years old and under. So I'll probably post about homeschool life too.
I love cooking and canning so I'll probably post some recipes (I love one-pot dinners, and making bread and sweets) and about canning or pickling days. I love organizing (one of my projects for today was to go thru all 3 of my kids' clothes sort out stuff they're too big for, or have worn out, and bag up donations or trash and reorganize the rest - and do the same with toys). I'll probably post about organizing ideas and stuff I find works as I try to bring a little order to our chaos.
We live in a 480sq ft home we built ourselves. Its a work in progress. When its finished it will still be less than 1000 sq ft. I wanted a small home because I want to spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying my life and family. We lived in it as a 320 sq ft tiny home for about a year and a half. I have spent a lot of time trying to organize a small space. And doing so on a middle class budget - not the 100k+ you see on Tiny House Nation and other shows about tiny living. I'll share about it as I go on and maybe some things I've learned will help others actually trying to do the tiny house thing in the real world with a family.
As I'm typing this my almost 2 year old daughter is sitting up at the table with me trying to hit the keyboard keys too, while her 2 brothers are discussing something about a shark toy they're playing with in the floor - so I'm sure mom life and my kids will be a big part of this blog.
My husband and I are blessed to work together at the same job - I'm more of part time, he works full time. We go in to work together at about 4pm and my in-laws watch our kids for the 4 to 5 hours I work, then I come home to put the kids to bed, and my husband comes home about 12 midnight. He's home all day and helps me with the kids and works on projects here at home. (We have a never ending list of projects we're working on....)
We work at a commercial dairy farm (1400 head of dairy cows). My husband has been a dairy farmer all his life. He started breeding cows at 12 and knows everything there is to know about the health and reproduction of a dairy cow. Even though reproduction and health is his specialty, its very wearing and tiring to breed cows as your main job. After years of doing that, a job opened up for evening maternity shift and that's what we're currently doing and enjoying the slower pace very much. We pull calves when the mamas can't give birth on their own and work the fresh cows and calves as they're born. We also do other jobs, but this is our main responsibility. I'll probably post about this from time to time.
When he's at home my husband loves building things, welding, metal work, animals, butchering, hunting, trapping, etc. I'll post about his projects, and projects outside we're working on together on this blog too.
My instant pot is about to go off, so I need to finish getting dinner done. This is just a small post meant to kind of give an idea of what I like to do and what I'll post about on this blog.
